Buy the bundle and SAVE: Nonfiction Resources for the YEAR
Whooo is ready for owl week? This resource will have your students hooked on owls in no time. It's chock full of non-fiction fun!
The topics discussed in this packet are:
- Life of an Owl
- Parts of an Owl
- Owl Babies
- Where Do Owls Live?
- What Do Owls Eat?
- All About Owl Pellets
In this 111 page packet, I've included:
Part 1: Posters to hang in your classroom and to use while introducing owls (real life photographs that show the parts of an owl, along with important vocabulary).
Part 2: All About Owls - These article pages were designed as a way for you to "hook" your students at the beginning of your owl unit. You can display the article pages on your document camera as a whole group or print and display during small group instruction.
Part 3: Differentiated All About Owls Mini-Books - These are differentiated mini-books that can be used during small group instruction. There are three versions. Each version is slightly easier than the last. I wanted to give you options because I know that many of our students come in reading at different ability levels. It is up to you to pick and choose which articles you use with your groups. You can either print in color and laminate or print them in grayscale. Text-Dependent Response sheets follow!
Part 4: Owl Close Reading Passages - These articles are PERFECT to use at the beginning of the year to help you and your students get into the groove of closely reading a text that requires multiple reads and answering text-dependent questions. These can either be done together in small group OR with guided support. Questions about each close reading passage are included.
The following articles included are:
- Snowy Owls
- Elf Owls
- Screech Owls
- Great Long Horned Owls
Real life photographs will enhance your students understanding of owls. I've also provided sheets for students to write a summary on the owl of their choice.
Part 5: True/False Owl Activity - After learning facts about owls, students will sort the sentences according to whether they are true or false. I've also provided a cut/paste sheet too that requires students to read simple sentences and glue them in the correct column.
Part 6: Graphic Organizers Galore - These graphic organizers, vocabulary books, and independent practice sheets can be used however you wish! I tried to offer you many different options to help meet the needs of your diverse group.
In addition, I've also included links to some fabulous owl web resources and books!
