Step-By-Step Phonics is a Science of Reading aligned phonics practice resource that follow a carefully planned scope and sequence. The phonics-based support pages can be used during small groups, as at home practice, or as an assessment tool.

With this resource, your students can practice reading words with the focus phonics skills in isolation and in the context of a highly decodable text.

Students also have opportunities to make connections between the speech sounds (phonemes) and their letter sounds or letter sound combinations (graphemes) through writing exercises.

This resource is broken down into easy-to-digest steps! This systematic process encourages students to build confidence in their reading and writing.

Step 1: Tap and say each sound. Write the word. Blend.
Step 2: Read each word and sentence. Highlight the phonics focus skill.
Step 3: Read the short highly decodable text.
Step 4: Read each word with the focus phonics skill. Choose 1 or more words to use in a sentence.

There are 2 sheets per phonics skill. You can place the sheets in a binder or pronged folder. I like to hole punch the two sheets so they are side-by-side (see in the photo above) for students to easily see both pages.
