Take your students on an educational journey to different schools around the world! The captivating photographs and fascinating facts will truly make the experience of "visiting" schools around the world a memorable one!

Suggestions for Use:

  • Comparing and Contrasting
  • Recognizing Our Similarities and Differences
  • Parts of the World
  • Map Skills

Students "visit" different schools around the world and will address the following questions:

  • What Do Students Learn Around the World?
  • How Do Students Get to School Around the World?
  • What Do Schools Look Like Around the World?
  • What Do Students Eat for Lunch Around the World?
  • What Do Students Wear to School Around the World?
  • What Days Do Students Go to School Around the World?

I suggest beginning the unit by discussing the similarities and differences of the students in your classroom, and then branching out to discussing the similarities and differences among people and schools in the world.

This unit covers MANY countries. It does not go too in-depth about any one particular country. However, it does expose your students to different parts of the world. I may make resources that more go more in-depth about different regions of the world in the future.

The following countries are touched on in this packet:

  • United States
  • Kenya
  • Peru
  • Bolivia
  • Japan
  • China
  • Finland
  • India
  • Uganda
  • Morocco
  • Philippines
  • Thailand

Part 1: Posters to hang in your classroom and to use while introducing your unit on Schools Around the World (real life photographs along with important vocabulary).

Part 2: Schools Around the World - These article pages were designed as a way for you to "hook" your students at the beginning of your unit. You can display the article pages on your document camera as a whole group or print and display during small group instruction.

Part 3: Differentiated Schools Around the World Mini-Books - These are differentiated mini-books that can be used during small group instruction. There are three versions. Each version is slightly easier than the last. I wanted to give you options because I know that many of our students come in reading at different ability levels. It is up to you to pick and choose which articles you use with your groups. You can either print in color and laminate or print them in grayscale. Text-Dependent Response sheets follow!

Real life photographs will enhance your students understanding of Ireland. I've also provided sheets for students to write a summary.

Part 4: True/False Schools Around the World Activity - After learning facts about Ireland, students will sort the sentences according to whether they are true or false. I've also provided a cut/paste sheet too that requires students to read simple sentences and glue them in the correct column.

10 "School Snapshot" photographs and fact sheets to display during this unit.

Part 5: Graphic Organizers Galore - These graphic organizers, vocabulary books, and independent practice sheets can be used however you wish! I tried to offer you many different options to help meet the needs of your diverse group.

In addition, I've also included links to some fabulous Schools Around the World web resources and books!
