Word Mapping is a Science of Reading aligned phonics practice resource that follow a carefully planned scope and sequence.
With this resource, your students have opportunities to make connections between the speech sounds (phonemes) and their letter sounds or letter sound combinations (graphemes).
HOW TO USE:
Students will say the picture, map the word (they can tap, clap, chop the sounds and then color or cover each circle with a chip), graph the word (they will write the letter or letters that represents the sound), and then write the word. Finally, they will write a sentence using 1 or more of the words they mapped.
These mats are terrific for small group instruction time, center time, independent practice, or at-home practice.
MAKE IT HANDS-ON:
Add magnetic letters, play dough, chips, daubers, and other manipulatives to make it hands-on. You can also get students up and moving by having them clap, tap, stomp, or chop the sounds as they map the word.
TEACHER CHEAT SHEET:
A teacher cheat sheet is included in case you or your students come across a picture you can't decipher.
